A handy tool to forward ports in windows PC

Posted by Jaisal Abdurrahman

Analog Port mapper is a free handy tool for port forwarding in windows PC's.As far as i know it is quiet easy to forward ports in linux machine, but in windows xp so difficult to forward a port unless we have enabled ICS .it is usual to think why needed a portforwarding in a particular windows xp machine.I had a situation to make me think about this feature. In one of my network scenario ,remote locations are connected via vpn clinet software .so i can access only the PC which is installed client software in the remote network.ones i needed to acces an IP camera which is connected in remote network, make me think about any ways to reach the IP camera.Bridging VPN adapter with remote network is not a proper solution because of difficulty in DHCP assignment of VPN adapter.
However this handy tool helped me to reach to the IP camera which is in remote network subnet.the tool forwading traffics comming from port 80 of VPN adapter,to the ip address of camera and make it possible to monitor the camera from head office.

The Grid: The Next-Gen Internet?

Posted by Jaisal Abdurrahman

AMSTERDAM, Netherlands -- The Matrix may be the future of virtual reality, but researchers say the Grid is the future of collaborative problem-solving.

More than 400 scientists gathered at the Global Grid Forum this week to discuss what may be the Internet's next evolutionary step.

Though distributed computing evokes associations with populist initiatives like SETI@home, where individuals donate their spare computing power to worthy projects, the Grid will link PCs to each other and the scientific community like never before.

The Grid will not only enable sharing of documents and MP3 files, but also connect PCs with sensors, telescopes and tidal-wave simulators.

IBM's Brian Carpenter suggested "computing will become a utility just like any other utility."

Carpenter said, "The Grid will open up ... storage and transaction power in the same way that the Web opened up content." And just as the Internet connects various public and private networks, Cisco Systems' Bob Aiken said, "you're going to have multiple grids, multiple sets of middleware that people are going to choose from to satisfy their applications."

Build a Wireless Repeater Bridge

Posted by Jaisal Abdurrahman

To build a network bridge is easy through a Ethernet cable. It is used to connect two LAN segment. Making it trough a wireless link is not easier like Ethernet. The two segments will be in the same subnet and look like two Ethernet switches connected by a cable to all computers on the subnet.wireless bridge will be great idea when we don't want to run an Ethernet cable between two locations.
The following guide is explains building of a wireless repeater bridge using DD-WRT firmware from my experience
the example scenario as follows :-

    • Wireless Network Mode : Mixed
    • Wireless Network Name(SSID) : Same as Primary Router
    • Wireless Channel : Auto
    • Wireless SSID Broadcast : Enable
    • Network Configuration : Bridged
    • Save Settings
  4. Virtual Interfaces Section

    • Wireless Network Name(SSID) : anything Different from Primary Router
    • Wireless SSID Broadcast : Enable
    • AP Isolation : Disable
    • Network Configuration : Bridged
    • Save Settings
  5. Open the Setup -> Basic Setup tab
    • Connection Type : Disabled
    • IP Address : 192.168.1.2 (Assuming Primary Router IP is 192.168.1.1)
    • Mask : 255.255.255.0
    • Gateway: 192.168.1.1 (IP of your Primary Router)
    • Assign WAN Port to Switch : Checked or Unchecked - your choice
    • Save Settings
  6. Open the Security -> Firewall tab
    • Disable SP1 firewall
    • Save Settings
  7. Open the Status -> Wireless tab
    • Site Survey
